What it pays or provides

Oregon pays weekly unemployment benefits if you lost your job or had your hours cut through no fault of your own. The exact weekly amount depends on your past earnings — Frances Online shows your specific amount once you apply.

Who qualifies

You may qualify if you worked at least 500 hours or were paid at least $1,000 by an employer during your base year, worked in Oregon for someone else's business sometime in the past 18 months, and are able to work, available for work, and actively looking for work each week. Being laid off or having your hours cut counts; quitting without good cause or being fired for misconduct usually doesn't — but unemployment insurance experts review each claim individually, so it's worth applying even if you're not sure.

Documents you’ll likely need

• Your name, Social Security number, birthdate, and contact information
• Your complete work history for the past 18 months, including employer names, addresses, phone numbers, and start and end dates
• Bank account and routing numbers, if you want direct deposit
• Your USCIS number, A-number, or I-94 number, if you're not a U.S. citizen or COFA Islander

How long approval usually takes

Most applications are reviewed within one week, though claims with eligibility questions go through a longer adjudication review that can take more time.

If you’re denied

If your benefits are reduced or denied, you'll get a written decision. You can appeal by requesting a hearing, but there's a deadline on the decision — miss it and you may lose the right to have it changed.
