Cash help for families with kids (TANF)
What it pays or provides
A family of three with no other income can get up to $506 a month in TANF cash assistance; your actual amount depends on your household's income and family size. Oregon also adds a clothing allowance of $270 total to your EBT card in May, August, and November if your family is still eligible. Through the JOBS program, you can also get help paying for things like transportation, car repairs, clothing, and child care, plus support with training, a GED, college, housing, parenting and budgeting skills, mental health or substance use treatment referrals, and English language learning.
Who qualifies
You need to live in Oregon and have minimal income and few resources (property, vehicles, and bank accounts are all counted). The person applying needs to be a parent or caregiver for a child under 18, be pregnant, or be 18 or younger and heading their own household. Most people who get TANF also need to participate in the JOBS program.
How other benefits affect it
When you apply for TANF, you can apply for SNAP and the Oregon Health Plan at the same time. Getting TANF can also qualify you for ERDC child care help without needing to separately show work or school hours.
How to apply
Apply online or update your case at benefits.oregon.gov, by calling 800-699-9075, or in person at your local ODHS office. After you apply, you'll schedule an interview (by phone or in person) before ODHS decides your case and mails your EBT card.

Keeping it (renewal)
You'll get a renewal packet or notice about 45 days before your renewal is due.
